-zirconium oxide-
Zirconium dioxide is a hard ceramic material, which is used for instance in space technology.
From a chemical point of view it is a mixture between the rare element – zirconium – and oxygen, with the formula ZrO2. It is also known as zirconium oxide or zirconia.
-applications-
Zirconium oxide is a ceramic material used in medicine for the past 20 years, mainly for hip prostheses. This material is 100% biocompatible, as the main parts are partially identical with the minerals found in the bone structure.
Even allergy-prone patients or with weakened immunity systems may benefit from this material with no negative reactions.
Zirconium is not an electricity conductor and consequently has no electric potential, acting as an insulator.
For the reasons above it offers an efficient protection against painful irritations caused by cold or hot sensations. Corrosion is not possible either, no reactions similar to the ones known occurring (-black border line of the gum.)
-ceramic frame + wrapping ceramic-
After using a computer-aided design system (CAD), the zirconium cape is made with the help of a computer-aided cutting system (CAM), resulting in an extremely precise and elastic frame.
This frame is wrapped in a special ceramic by the dental technician, who will take into account every feature individually, hue, occlusion and abrasion and shall create the most aesthetic and biocompatible dental restoration. Materials and handicraft shall lead to a result without any natural denture noticeable differences, which are sometimes of a better efficiency.
This plating ceramic is especially made to be finer than the basic structure, to avoid any problems that might be caused by friction (during mastication) against natural teeth.
